The possible benefits of political representation

Even if you had the option to represent yourself in the legislature, there are reasons to send a representative instead:

But...you get better results only when the representative is aligned with your values, interests, and priorities. Only you know these things and how well or poorly they are being served by your representative. Good representation depends on how free you are to select the representative you want.


Self-organized constituencies

No matter how legislators are chosen, you should be allowed to pick any one of them as your representative. This way people who share a representative will share political beliefs, and we minimize misrepresentation.

Representatives will have different numbers of final constituents. The simplest way to maintain our political equality is to weight their votes in the legislature by the number or us who picked each of them. If 5000 picked Joe and 10000 picked Jane, Jane's votes will count twice as much as Joe's.
